How much does the average wedding cost?

My husband and I spent just under $5,000 on our wedding in 2006--the bulk of it for plane tickets and a week-long honeymoon suite in Las Vegas. We had no guests--my family watched online as we were married at Chapel of the Flowers (that us in the photo).

As others have said, there is no "typical" wedding. What wonderful is whatever wedding you want is perfect. Like most averages, this is a little misleading: 38% of High Low Schoolfeest Jurken all weddings in the US are below $10,000, which means a relatively few hugely elaborate weddings skew the average upward.

Here are some tips for setting your budget and planning within it:

Start with a wedding plan that includes who is paying for what, a detailed timeline / checklist, and a way to plan track spending by category. The lower the number you invite, the more economical the wedding.

The venue can be another large expense. Unique venues--such as farms, unused warehouses, and basements--can be significant money savers.

If your budget is limited, decide what type of vendors to hire and find those that fit your needs. Know your own strengths when planning a big event and understand the value quality each experienced professional adds to your dream wedding.

Know how to efficiently resea. (more)Loading.

Wait, there IS indeed a typical wedding as far as the usual services, number of guests, and what couples can expect everything to cost. The majority of couples spend between $19,000 and $32,000, not including the honeymoon.

While no one says anyone MUST have what is considered an average/typical wedding (anyone can just go to the courthouse and call it a day) the question asked was what the typical costs are involved. When around 60% of couples annually spend around the same amount on the same things each year, you have data there that supports average costs. Even just having dinner and alcoholic drinks for 150 guests, which IS what MOST people do, is going to vary from around $90 - $150 per person in most metro areas. Right there is an average of $13,500 - $22,500 just for the reception dinner. What about the other services and goods like flowers, band/dj, photographer, wedding cake, ceremony costs, wedding dress, rings, etc?

I know the budget conscious posters are trying to be helpful, but it really doesn help Grote Maten Trouwjurken to mislead couples into thinking they can have a dinner for 150 at a typical reception venue with all of the usual services for less than $5000. For couples that want to have a typical wedding how does that kind of information help them plan and save accordingly? The hugely elaborate weddings are less than 10% of the market overall. They don skew the data that much. Couples need accurate information so they can decide how to best prioritize and plan for their wedding. Then be creative in the other areas. Here are some ideas:

Do it yourself as much as possible: veil, favors, centerpieces, decorations, etc. Pinterest is a good place to get ideas.

Recruit friends and family to help. Instead of renting a reception venue, find an unusual setting--a ranch, field, old building, basement, etc. Limit the number of guests to your closest family and friends. Have a casual, rather than formal, wedding.
